Uefa Champions League Quarter Finals Reviews
So as it happened, Uefa Champions League quarter finals 1st
leg was
underway on 5th and 6th of April 2016. It turned out to be routine results
for most of the teams as they done what was expected.
Bayern
Munchen vs. Benfica (1 – 0)
Bayern
Munchen was totally expected to win this leg of Champions League as they were
facing Benfica which is not as good as Byaren Munchen and as it happened Bayern
Munchen took away the match with them at home. But, Bayern was expected to tear
their opponents apart and make their Semi Finals confirm at the first leg stage
itself but this did not happen as it’s seen.
Although
Bayern Munchen took control over the game early on in the game when Arturo
Vidal tucked in a header and made the score line 1- 0 in their favour in the
starting five minutes.
That
goal gave the confidence and a feeling that Bayern Munchen will thrash their
opponents and will produce a bigger score line in their favour.
Benfica
after conceding the first goal, tightened up the defence and didn’t allowed a single
opponent to make his mark on the game again as Bayern Munchen was struggling to
enter the penalty area as Benfica was playing a full defensive game as it was
neede to stop a team like Bayern Munchen.
Josep
Guardiola said this earlier – “ Benfica can be termed as favourite as they are
running in great form and have lost only 1 match out of the 20 they’ve played.
The
second leg is yet to come and still, it can’t be said whether Bayern Munchen Will
make it to the semi finals or not.
Barcelona
vs. Atletico Madrid ( 2 -1 )
This was
a tight tie as these both teams are fighting for La Liga as well and are close
enough in terms of points and this of course was UEFA Champions League night so
the pressure was much higher on both the teams.
Although
Barcelona was expected to win because at present they’re in such a form that no
team can take them lightly and they can score anytime they want, but Atletico
having the best defensive record were also expected to give them a tough fight
and so it happened.
Fernando
Torres scored the first goal of the game at 25’ min. Mark to give his side a
precious lead.
First
half then saw no goal but Torres of course saw two yellow card and was sent
off at 36th minute and the
score line read Barcelona 0 – 1 Atletico.
Second
half looked quite calm till the 60th min mark then Barcelona started
to combine to make a move and they were successful at the 63rd minute
as Luis Suarez gave them an equalizer to celebrate at home, then Barcelona was
seen at high press and were constantly trying to make it to the penalty area
and it was the 74th minute when Dani Alves and Luis Suarez combined
to give their side a 2 – 1 lead over their rivals and sealed their victory and
made the managers and the fans happy.
Barcelona
was in total control throughout the match as they had more than 60% possession
and had more shots on target than Atletico and were definitely the favourites.
Second
leg will decide which team is supposed to get in and will still play for the
UEFA Champions League trophy.
PSG
vs. Manchester City ( 2 – 2 )
This was
a close tie match as it was expected to be. Both of the teams were playing in good
form and were supposed to give each other a tough fight but it was unknown that
it would be so close that the match could not decide the winner.
PSG were
under total control throughout the match as they shared more than 60% in terms
of possession. But comparing in terms of shots both the teams were equally offensive.
Match
was going tight and both of the teams were looking quite composed till the time Kevin de Bruyne scored a goal in the 38th min. assisted by
Fernandinho to give a 1 goal lead to his side but the lead did not stood for
long as Zlatan Ibrahimovic score an equalizer at 41st minute and
made the score 1- 1.
Second
goal for PSG didn’t took too long to come as A. Rabiot scored the lead taking
goal in the 59th minute and took control over the game. The game
then came to a compose mode but suddenly Manchester City started to combine and
at the 72nd minute Fernandinho scored the equalizer for Manchester City
giving them a 2 away goal advantage.
Although
the match has been a draw but Manchester City is at a bigger advantage as
compared to PSG. The second leg of the Uefa Champions League Quarter finals will
be played at Etihad stadium in Manchester and so on aggregate Manchester City
have 2 away goals which may provide a big benefit and a sense of ease in the
second leg.
Because
even if Manchester City do not score in the second leg and manage to stop PSG
from scoring, the game will be in Man City’s hands as they have away goals with
them.
Let’s
see what hits in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter finals.
Wolfsburg
vs. Real Madrid ( 0 – 2 )
Well,
this was something unexpected for both the teams. Usually anyone would say that
Real Madrid would take away the match with them against Wolfsburg and most of
the times would it happen but yesterday was a different day as Wolfsburg
took the match away with them with 2- 0
lead over Real Madrid.
Wolfsburg
got a controversial penalty in the 18th minute given away by
Casemiro and was successfully put in the net by R. Rodriguez which gave
Wolfsburg side a great sense of confidence. Arnold managed to stay in the
opponent’s penalty area being on side and scoring the second goal for his team
making this a comfortable fixture for the team.
Real
Madrid did put some efforts but were most of the times unsuccessful to even
make their presence felt in the penalty area.
Ronaldo
scored a goal but was given offside, Bale was fouled inside the penalty area
but was awarded with nothing. It seemed as if referee didn’t had a good look at
the moment and gave the decision which he felt was right.
But in
the end what matters is the score line which reads Wolfsburg 2 – 0 Real Madrid.
The match is still on as Real Madrid is still to welcome Wolfsburg in the
Santiago Bernabeu for the second leg of the Uefa Champions League quarter
finals. Fans hope that Madrid wins it this time so that they still have a hope
of winning at least one silverware this season that is the UEFA Champions
League.
We wish
best of luck to every team out there playing for the penultimate prize of the
season.
